Abstract

This study was performed in order to identify the glycoconjugates in the erupting dental crown of the rat. The experimental rats were used at around 2nd week after birth.
The maxilla obtained from the area before eruption of maxillary first molar was fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin. After making serial paraffin section at 6§, the specimens were incubated with 9 kinds oif lectins(Con-A, RCA-I, LCA, WGA,
PNA,
BSL-I, SBA, SJA and UEA-I).
In order to increase the specificity of the reactions, the sections were applicated with ABC system. And then the sections were incubated DAB and were counterstained with hematoxylin.
After reading the stained slides, authors could know the identifications of glycoconjugates in the erupting dental crown of the rat as follows.
1. The reduced enamel epithelium was stained with Con-A, RCA, LCA, WGA, PNA, BS-L and UEA.
2. Enamel matrix localized at cervical part was stained with PNA and BSL-I.
3. Coronal odontoblast and connective tissue matrix of dental papilla were stained with Con-A, RCA, LCA, WGA, PNA, BSL-I and SJA.
4. Coronal predentin(dentin matrix) was stained with Con-A, RCA, LCA and BSL-I.
5. Coronal dentin was stained with BSL-I and SJA.
6. The material of the basal lamina localized between reduced enamel epithelium and enamel was stained with RCA and WGA.
